Wednesday Night Bible Study Joshua 1 060723

Jun 7, 2023    David Clark

Today, we will be starting a brand new Book in the Bible. We will be starting the Book of Joshua. So, if you have been waiting for a good starting point to begin attending Wednesday night bible study, tonight is a great night to do so.

Moses is dead, the Israelites are right at the cusp of entering into the promised land, and a new leader, Joshua, is now responsible for leading 1.5-2 million people in fulfilling the promise the Lord made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Joshua has some huge sandals to fill, and I can not imagine what he was feeling as 1.5-2 million eyes were all on him, waiting for his first orders as the new leader.

There were about to be some huge changes in the lives of the Israelites. The manna would stop, the pillar of cloud and fire that once led them would stop, and they would soon be setting down roots and no longer living in tents. Not to mention, there would be no more Moses to lead them.

I imagine Joshua is a bit overwhelmed, anxious and maybe even a little terrified. What we are going to see tonight is the Lord continually reminding Joshua to be strong and courageous. The Lord will remind Joshua that He will be with him as he enters into the promised land. I imagine this would bring Joshua great comfort as he gives his first orders to his commanders to get the Israelites ready to move out.

In the book of Joshua we are going to see a lot of shadows of things to come. We are going to see our own battles and salvation represented in the fulfilment of the promises of God.
